What it does: Used for lowering (and raising)‘small’ pieces of equipment (e.g. the CTD) over the starboard edge.
It has a safe working load of 3.5 tonnes, due to the wire it uses, which has a core containing both copper and fire optic cables so that it can constantly ‘talk’ to onboard computers to let them know tensions etc. involved.
Where it is (X marks the spot):
Who is in charge of it: Mark Squibb (pictured right)
Certificates you need to use it: You don’t need a certificate, but you need to be signed off by Mark in your training log book. This means you can use it onboard within this company.
How to get these: Practice, under supervision of Mark.
