JC010: Mud volcanoes and submarine canyons

 JC10

Jez's Top 5 Useful Machines

Jez (below left) is the operations manager on the RRS James Cook. He and his team are responsible for the preparation, deployment and maintenance of equipment. Without these guys, it would be impossible for the scientists to carry out their work.

The operations crew certainly know their machines. Although some are really complicated, some are very simple, for example a lever – a machine is just something that transfers energy by force. Hopefully this feature will help you to learn more about the machines the crew use, the crew members and how they do their jobs.

So, for the last five days of the cruise, starting today, Jez is going to lead us in a countdown of the five most useful machines onboard the ship. Check back each day to make sure you get the lowdown on each one.

Now that's what I call a spanner...
and apparently this is only a small one!
